فونت مانلی بیشتر از دیگر فونت‌های دست‌نویس به شکل طبیعی یک دست‌نوشتهء تحریری نزدیک است و به عبارتی دیگر یک فونت دست نویس کامل است.
دلیل وجود این کمال چیست؟
در اغلب فونت‌های دست نویس، حروف با دست طراحی شده اما به هر حال در یک ساختار مستقیم روی خط کرسی به هم متصل می‌شوند در حالی که فونت مانلی دارای کرسی پله‌ای است. در واقع این همان ساختاری است که مثلاً خط نستعلیق را شکل می‌دهد و طراح فونت مانلی (محمد عمویی) به خوبی از آن استفاده کرده است.
علاوه بر این، فونت مانلی دیگر ویژگی‌های یک فونت دست نویس مانند ترکیبات آماده و حروف جایگزین را هم پشتیبانی می‌کند.

نسخه اول فونت مانلی حاوی تعداد محدودی ترکیبات جایگزین است اما به مرور و در نسخه‌های بعدی این ترکیبات افزایش خواهد یافت.
اگرچه ساختن تایپوگرافی‌های زیبا با هر فونت دست نویس مستلزم ایجاد تغییر در ترکیب بندی حروف است اما در نمونه بالا یک متن خام بدون دستکاری از فونت مانلی را هم می‌توانید ببینید.
فونت لیلا (طراحی شده توسط رضا بختیاری فرد) را شاید بتوان تنها فونت دست‌نویس کامل دانست که پیش از فونت مانلی طراحی شده است. از آنجا که برخی از کاربران در نگاه اول فونت مانلی را با لیلا مشابه دانسته بودند بهتر دیدیم این مقایسه را در صفحه معرفی قرار دهیم تا مشخص شود که فونت لیلا و مانلی از دو دست خط کاملا متفاوت ساخته شده‌اند.
در واقع قلم لیلا به یک دست خط شخصی آزاد وفادار مانده اما فونت مانلی بیشتر شبیه دست‌خطی است که به آرامی و طبق اصول خوشنویسی تحریر شده است.
